Hovea - residential driveway - red asphalt

Updated: Jun 12, 2023

The below five photos show an existing hardstand steep driveway in the Perth Hills suburb of Hovea.

The surface was scraped clean of loose material and contamination.

The driveway was then covered with a layer of roadbase, compacted and waterbound to form a hardstand surface and sealed with a 25mm thick layer of 7mm laterite asphalt/hotmix with 1% red oxide.

The photos below show the completed driveway immediately after the asphalt was laid.

Sections of the driveway are covered with sand and running water from the compaction machinery.

The sand allows for immediate use and prevents scuffing of the surface whilst newly laid.

Newly laid laterite asphalt/hotmix is very dark when first laid but oxidises and lightens in colour revealing a terracotta like gravel surface. The more sun the surface receives the faster the surface oxidises.

The first photo below shows the completed driveway with a very enthusiastic Brett posing happily on the completed job!!
